London (30 August, 2022) US match racer Dave Perry and his team won the 2022 Oakcliff International event in Oyster Bay, New York, an official stage of the World Match Racing Tour. Perry won the event 3-1 defeating finalist Peter Holz in a epic battle. Fellow US match racer Chris Poole (Riptide Racing) finished third defeating New Zealand’s Megan Thompson 2-1 in the Petit-final.

The 2022 Oakcliff International invited 12 teams competing in the popular Match 40 fleet ideally designed for match racing. The International field including teams from the US, France, Sweden, Italy, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Strong winds graced the first day of the regatta, but the northerly wind forecasted for the second day never arrived resulting in no racing. After the round robins, Dave Perry, Chris Poole and Peter Holz led leader board followed by Jean-Baptiste Bernaz in fourth place and Sweden’s Anna Östling and her Wings team in fifth place. Anna and her team were last at the Oakcliff International in 2019 where they were the first all-female team to win a grade 1 match racing event.

Winning the event, Dave Perry and team were awarded $2500 in Prize Grants. Perry was sailing with a creative team made up of all skippers in their own right, Congo Cup expert, Steve Flam, America’s top female match racer, Nicole Breault, up and coming skipper Cormac Murphy and World Champion Youth Match Race Champion Daniel Pegg.
