In the Gold Cup, it’s a battle of champions as eight-time world match racing champion Ian Williams faces Johnie Berntsson, who’s chasing his third straight Gold Cup victory and fifth overall. Meanwhile, the Aspen Bermuda Women’s Match Race delivered a major upset as Lea Vogelius stunned world No. 1 Pauline Courtois with a 3–0 sweep. She will meet Anna Östling in the final after Östling edged out Nicole Breault in a thrilling 3–2 series. Berntsson looked nearly unstoppable after recovering from an opening-race loss to Eric Monnin, taking the next three to secure his place in the final. Williams, meanwhile, overcame a loss due to a wrong mark choice to defeat Chris Poole 3–2, brushing off the error to finish the job in the match point race. In the women’s semis, Vogelius found her best form of the week to sweep Courtois, capitalizing on strong starts and smart shifts. Östling, who has been in dominant form all week, fought back twice from behind against Breault to claim her spot in the final – including overcoming a double penalty. With one flight still to go, Nicole Breault 🇺🇸, Julia Aartsen 🇳🇱, and Lea Vogelius 🇩🇰 are all fighting for the final two spots, joining Anna Östling 🇸🇪 and Pauline Courtois 🇫🇷 —who battled on today despite injuries from a scooter crash. The remaining five races tomorrow morning will decide who advances to the semis. The unpredictable weather brought both frustration and suspense. A downpour halted the first flight and left teams waiting ashore before light winds shut down the day entirely.
