The 61st edition of the Congressional Cup hosted b The 61st edition of the Congressional Cup hosted by the Long Beach Yacht Club roared to life today as ten of the world’s leading match racing teams clashed in a high-stakes opening day battle for early qualification points. Leading the day, two-time event champion Chris Poole/Riptide Racing (USA) set the bar finishing undefeated with six straight wins. Defending champion Eric Monnin and his Swiss Match Racing Team also posted a strong performance, finishing the day at five wins and one loss. Read the story: wmrt.com

The Battle Begins • Ten of the world’s leading mat The Battle Begins • Ten of the world’s leading match racing teams are putting it all on the line in Long Beach, California for the 61st Congressional Cup. Chris Poole’s Riptide Racing leads with an undefeated record followed by Eric Monnin who only took one L - to Poole. Behind, the field is wide open. There is a five-way tie. “Every race is very bow-to stern,” said Christian Prendergast. “Often, you can make a small mistake and still win a race. Welcome to the 61st Long Beach Yacht Club Congress Welcome to the 61st Long Beach Yacht Club Congressional Cup 🏁 Recognized as the ‘granddaddy’ of modern world-class match racing, it is the premier and longest running event of its kind in North America. The world’s top-ranked match racers are here in Long Beach, California to compete in this five-day regatta, vying for the prestigious Congressional Cup trophy and the famous Crimson Blazer. The first race begins this morning at 11:30am. Watch the action at the end of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier all week long with free admission.
