BERMUDA GOLD CUP NEWCOMERS THRIVE TO MAKE QUARTER- BERMUDA GOLD CUP NEWCOMERS THRIVE TO MAKE QUARTER-FINALS Inexperience proved no barrier to success as the first four skippers sailed into the quarter-finals of the World Match Racing Tour’s Bermuda Gold Cup in Hamilton Harbour. But it was not until the last of the 17 flights and the 66th match that the top-four could celebrate a spot in the knockout stages, with Chris Poole’s [USA] loss to Tom Picot [AUS] leaving him stranded on seven points to miss out on a qualification spot by one win. Poole, a veteran of the Gold Cup, was pipped to the final four by three skippers who were racing in the event for the first time. Among them is Christian Hamilton (GBR), who continued his stratospheric rise through the World Match Racing Tour rankings, by racking up eight wins in the round-robin stage and was understandably thrilled to have made it into the latter stages at his first attempt. SCANDINAVIAN DUO SHINE ON OPENING DAY OF BERMUDA G SCANDINAVIAN DUO SHINE ON OPENING DAY OF BERMUDA GOLD CUP Denmark’s Jeppe Borch (Borch Match Race Team) and Sweden’s Oscar Engström (Team Liros) made a flying start to the 2026 Bermuda Gold Cup mastering lighter winds in the new fleet of Fareast 28R keelboats to share the lead after a fiercely contested opening day of racing. With five wins from six matches, the Scandinavian duo emerged as the early frontrunners at the penultimate stage of the 2026 World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), as 12 international teams battled shifting breezes and the challenges of a new generation of match racing boats introduced this year.
