*LATEST NEWS* Long Beach Yacht Club has announced *LATEST NEWS* Long Beach Yacht Club has announced the first eight entrants for the 2026 Congressional Cup, one of the world’s premier match racing events and a founding event of the World Match Racing Tour. This year’s lineup blends seasoned champions with rising stars, setting the stage for another unforgettable battle for one of sailing’s most coveted titles, the Congressional Cup and Crimson Blazer. Defending champion Eric Monnin from Switzerland returns to Long Beach for his twelfth challenge of the event, aiming to repeat his team’s breakthrough victory of the Cup last year, marking Monnin’s first ever World Match Racing Tour championship event win. He will face some of the sport’s most accomplished skippers, including the remarkable and seemingly ageless Ian Williams from Great Britain, a nine-time World Match Racing Champion and five-time Congressional Cup winner. Ian has competed at the Long Beach event thirteen times, donning his first Crimson Blazer in 2011. *BACK-TO-BACK TOUR POINTS CHAMPION* At the WMRT F *BACK-TO-BACK TOUR POINTS CHAMPION* At the WMRT Final in Shenzhen, China, USA's Chris Poole/ Riptide Racing was awarded the overall 2025 WMRT Points Championship for the second consecutive year, presented to the skipper/team with the highest points counting their top four results over the course of the season 👏👏 After finishing third at the inaugural Macao Match Cup in January '25, Poole went on to finish second at the '25 Long Beach Congressional Cup, narrowly defeated in the final by Switzerland's Eric Monnin and his Capvis Swiss Match Race Team claiming their first win of the popular Long Beach event. To the US Grand Slam events and Poole and team picked up a 5th place at the Oakcliff International in New York before going on to finish 2nd at his home club's Thompson Cup at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club. Two podium finishes (3rd) at the Bermuda Gold Cup in October and the WMRT Final in Shenzhen China gave Poole a total 177pts for the season with 135pts counting to the leaderboard, ahead of GBR's Ian Williams on 116pts and Sweden's Johnie Berntsson 114pts. 2025 WMRT Overall Points Championship 👏👇 1.
