At the age of fifteen Pieter ‘PJ’ Postma took part in his first European Championship in the Optimist before switching to the Laser Radial and then the Laser. He finished 10th in the Junior World Laser Championship in Sydney. Following a Naval internship, PJ narrowly missed out on the Olympic qualification in 2004 in the Laser.
In March 2005 Postma switched to the Finn class finishing 12th in the World Championship. He later represented his country at the 2008 Olympics in Qingdao finishing in 14th place in the Finn Class. In 2012, PJ returned in the Finn to the 2012 London Olympics finishing in 4th place.
