Perth, Australia (March 16th, 2017) – Steve Thomas and his RPM Racing team have swept through the first day of the Perth Match Cup undefeated, scoring four wins from four races, to head the leaderboard overnight. Talking at the end of the day, Thomas said, “the racing was really good, with some tight competition, all the guys are really good and we came together well, the communications on the boat really worked for us.”
The team, who represent the Royal Perth Yacht Club chalked up victories over Kiwis Gemma Jones and George Anyon plus Jeremy Koo from Malaysia and Russia’s Victor Serezhkin. Steve’s team, who have come together for this event are, Rhys Mara, Ben Robinson and Henry Kernot, all experienced sailors, but not a regular team.
Anyone, from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, is one of two skippers sharing second place on the ladder, level on three wins with another local skipper Brett Burvill.
This, the last qualifying event for next week’s World Match Racing Tour championship level Match Cup Australia, is being hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on Perth’s Swan River.
After a late start to racing, the crews tested their skills in a healthy but shifty easterly breeze during the morning, before the traditional sea breeze established itself in the afternoon.
